Sports movies have a particular sense of timelessness. Hard-hitting movies like Caddyshack, Field of Dreams, The Natural and Remember the Titans are forever tied into the lexicon of sports culture.

But so far, ever since the epic comedic release of Caddyshack in 1980, golf has yet to really hit on movies. Golf fans only have a few to select from. Happy Gilmore is a hilarious comedy. The Legend of Bagger Vance is a star-studded and entertaining movie. Shia LaBeouf’s portrayal of Francis Ouimet in The Greatest Game Ever Played was another fun, yet historical movie. Other than that, slim pickings from the golf movie industry.

Enter: The Squeeze.

Driving Series

Starring Jeremy Sumpter in the lead role of “Augie” and a supporting cast of Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore), Jillian Murphy, Michael Nouri, Katherine LaNasa and Jason Dohring, the movie is the story about the game of golf in its purest form, then taken to high-stakes–higher than anyone would’ve liked it to go.

The story is based on the true story of a young golfing phenom in the South who gets wrapped up into the wrong crowd of Las Vegas gamblers. The game becomes quite literally, a life-or-death situation.

Produced by Terry Jastrow (7 Emmys and 17 nominations as a Television Sports Director, Olympic Games, Wide World of Sports), The Squeeze offers golf fans some of the most authentic golfing action of any movie I’ve ever seen. It was part of Jastrow’s goal with the movie.

In fact, the lead actor Sumpter, actually carries a scratch handicap and has considered playing the game professionally. This adds to the realistic feel of the golfing action.

The movie is set to release today, April 17th, 2015 in select markets hitting theaters, VOD and iTunes.
