The best female golfers took to the fairways this weekend for the 2011 Women’s SDGA State Stroke Play Championship www.sdga.org.  With rainfalls of more than 5 inches running through Willow Run Golf Course www.willowrungolfcourse.com early Wednesday morning, the question wasn’t who might take home the top prize but would the event even take place.  However, the staff from Willow Run and SDGA put in long hours to prepare and find a 9 hole route that was used twice over for round one Friday.  By the weekend, all 18 holes were open and the event was well under way.

Kim Kaufman, a junior at Texas Tech http://bit.ly/KimKaufmanTTU set the pace on day 1 with a 3 under 67 with former match play champion Maggie Murphy and USF head golf coach Jenny Coluccio only three behind at even par 70.  Round two was off to a fast start with a hole in one by 2008 champion Karla Murra on hole #4 and lots of birdies early.  Once all was complete and round two was in the books, Kaufman had stretched her lead to seven shots with an impressive four under par 66 and two day total of 7 under.  Sunday was more of the same with Kaufman pulling further away and shooting her third consecutive round in the 60’s.  Her winning total of 9 under was nine shots clear of runner up Maggie Murphy.
