It is almost September and with September, comes the SoDak Cup – South Dakota’s version of the Ryder Cup. Arguably more intense, the SoDak Cup is an annual event which pits amateur golfers against professionals in a match play format. This year’s event is hosted in Yankton for the second straight year with the event being played at Fox Run Golf Course. Last year, Hillcrest Country Club saw the amateurs beat the professionals 12.5-7.5 – snapping a two year streak in which the professionals were victorious. This came on the heels of a 9 year amateur run, dating back to the times of Y2k.
This year’s amateur team is Ben Irlbeck of Sioux Falls, Chris Long of Garretson, Brandon Sigmund of Mitchell, Mike Brummer of Rapid City, Matt Johnson of Sioux Falls, Ryan Tjeersdma of Slayton, Julean Michels of Sioux Falls, Brett Coluccio of Sioux Falls, Brent Miller of Sioux Falls and Michael Keeton of Pierre.
The professional team has yet to be finalized.
The tournament format is as follows:
36 holes Saturday – Best Ball Foursomes early Saturday and Modified Chapman in the afternoon
18 holes Sunday – Singles
One point per match, with halves earning, of course, a half a point. Total points earned define the winning team for the season. SoDak Cup time is fast approaching….
