Golf Digest recently posted a list of bargain clubs that pros used in 2011, including a pair of Callaway Steelhead fairway woods that Mark Calcavecchia has in his bag that have a street value of $6.  6 bucks!  Yep, a ham sandwich’s worth.  Calc has had them in his bag since way back in ’98 and trusts them day in and day out.

Other pro’s using dirt cheap clubs are D.A. Points and his Ping i5 irons ($210 for a set), Lucas Glover and his ’07 Nike Sumo2 driver ($42) to LPGA world #1 Yani Tseng and her ’09 Adams Idea Tech A4 Irons ($148), with several more on the list.

This is certainly something that equipment manufacturers would both be proud of (because their equipment holds up over time) and that they wouldn’t want you to see (because they want you to buy their new equipment of course).  Equipment has come a long way over the past 10-15 years, and technology is definitely your friend; however, the old phrase, “stick with what works” always rings true.
