Last week Titleist sent several boxes from their Tour Department in Carlsbad, Cal. to Arnonimink Golf Club, host of the AT & T National PGA Tour event.  Inside those boxes were prototype AP1, AP2, CB and MB irons for Titleist staff members to test out.

Like most major golf companies, Titleist first sends new product to staff players on tour for feedback.  The new Titleist iron (712 series) is no different.  This validation process that each club goes through will greatly influence the final design and specifications of the product consumers will see in shops later this year.

For years Titlist has dominated the golf ball market and built its brand on having the #1 ball on tour.  But in the last decade they have also produced some of the best looking irons, woods, putters and wedges on the market.  With guys like Scotty Cameron and Bob Vokey on staff, they have not missed the mark with new designs.  My guess is the new 712 series of irons will be no different.

What do you think?  Does Titleist hit another home run with the new iron or does it fall flat like so many new designs each year?
