What a 2012 it has been for Andre Metzger. The two-time Dakotas Tour champion this summer played this past weekend on the Web.com Tour in the Midwest Classic presented by Cadillac. The tournament is played at Nicklaus Golf Course at LionsGate, a golf and tennis resort located in the Overland Park suburb southwest of Kansas City. The tournament was eventually won by Shawn Stefani, with a total of 17 under par. Through 3 rounds, it was the Dakota Tour native Metzger sitting at -11 par, in a tie for 8th place.
“I played really good the first three days. I putted really well,” said Metzger. “I was playing with two Monday qualifiers into the event over the first two days, and played with Aaron Watkins in the 3rd round. It was my putting that was really good, I think I had 27, 24, 25 putts the three rounds.”
He was in the hunt for the event following the three rounds and drew a pairing of Michael Connell in the 4th round. For Metzger, he started to started to struggle in the final round.
“It was the second 4 round tournament I played in all year, the first was at Hillcrest and i had a hard time there too,” Metzger stated following his weekend. “I would like to figure out where my weaknesses are in the final rounds to finish these events strong.”
Metzger played the 4th round to the tune of 76 with a pair of 38s on each nine. He felt it was the round where he hit the ball the best he had all week – hitting 13 greens – but it took him 34 putts to finish his round. It was overall a disappointing finish to a great week for Metzger, who plans to continue his playing on the Dakotas Tour for the remainder of the season.
“It was a huge confidence boost to be on the Web.com Tour, I know a place where I belong,” said Metzger. “I am excited for the rest of the season.”
He has Fargo, ND and Sioux Centre, IA on the Dakotas Tour, followed by some options going into September.
We will all be pulling for you, Andre!
