The final major is here and the PGA Championship will no doubt be just as exciting as the rest of the majors this season.

The 2016 PGA Championship is being held at the Baltusrol Golf Club located in Springfield, New Jersey. The land where the club stands was initially used as a weekend escape from the city life of New York. When golf started to become popular in America they had the perfect place to build a club and in 1895 the course was founded by Louis Keller. Keller had never even played the game, but had the insight, desire and an entrepreneurial instinct to create a golf course and make a living.

The name of the club alone has an earie if not intriguing history to it as well. In the early 1800’s the Roll family worked the land. In 1831 a patriarch named Baltrus was murdered by two intruders. The event caught the attention of the newspapers and it became a legend. The name is a combination of his first and last name. Baltusrol.

This historical golf club will most likely offer some exciting golf during the week as the 2016 PGA Championship play begins. That last time the PGA was there it did.

As the last major of the season the PGA Championship is usually held in late August. We all know that history is made in this game all the time and this tournament offers no exception as they have moved the tournament to late July to accommodate golf returning to the Olympics after 100 years.

Historical might not only cover the course and its name, but also this tournament as well. The PGA Championship used to be a match play event. It has only been played in the western part of the country 10 times. The next slotted event will not be until 2020 in the bay area of San Francisco.

It has been the only tournament to have a full time marketing to attract players to the event. “Glory’s last shot” and recently the tagline “This is major.” Some scorn has followed this tournament and its history, but with the players in attendance, the unbelievable shots to be seen and the scores to be had I do believe we are in for a real nice surprise. So don’t miss out on this year’s Championship.
