Ever since the GreatLIFE program was instituted in the Sioux Empire and extended areas, Willow Run Golf Course has been the pillar. The main course of the program–located only a few miles east of Sioux Falls–sees the most rounds of golf by an exponential amount.
On Thursday, the course announced its closing for the season on October 5th, 2014. Early compared to most golf seasons past. Especially considering some of the beautiful days left this fall, the close felt premature. But the reason for the close has nothing to do with the actual golf aspect of the course.
Starting upon the close, construction will begin at Willow Run for a new clubhouse and apartment complex. The apartment complex, set to be called The Willows, will stand on top of the hill overlooking the 10th hole, driving range and putting green. The clubhouse will be adjacent to the apartment complexes.
“We don’t like closing early, but it’s a necessary step as we move forward with our improvements at Willow Run. When we reopen next year, it will be well worth it. In the meantime, it’s a great opportunity for our members who normally play Willow Run to get out and try one of GreatLIFE’s other great courses like Bakker Crossing or Central Valley,” said GreatLIFE general manager Donn Hill.
The construction is expected to be completed by June 1, 2015.
