Contra Slice System Review: Will This Cure Your Slice?
You’ve Tried Everything to Fix Your Slice… Except This. Find Out if This Senior-Friendly System Really Works.
The slice is the most common problem among amateur golfers. And if you struggle with this shot, you know the kind of misery it can cause.
You’re hitting it out of bounds. You’re landing in bunkers. You’re adding strokes to your score as you chase the ball on and off the fairway.
You may have tried to fix it. Most golfers do. And most golfers find that traditional advice for fixing the slice does absolutely nothing for them.

Well, major champion golf coach Todd Kolb has just introduced an entirely new approach to eliminating the slice. It’s called the Contra Slice System, and it’s supposedly amateur-friendly, senior-friendly, and shockingly simple. He promises that, with this method, anyone can fix their contact, increase their distance, and hit long, high draws on command.
But is it legit or just another gimmick?
Here’s everything you need to know.
What is the Contra Slice System?
The Contra Slice System is a strategy focused entirely on overcoming the slice. But while traditional advice in this area starts by looking at the techniques professional golfers use, the Contra Slice System takes a different tack.
Ignoring all the traditional tips, PGA Instructor Todd Kolb started by focusing on the root problem, then created a method that addresses the issue with simple adjustments any golfer can make.

As Kolb explains it, the tour players’ strategies don’t work for amateur golfers because amateur golfers are working with an entirely different skill set.
It’s the same principle he built his Vertical Line Swing System on. More on that in a bit.
Who is the Contra Slice System For?
Kolb deliberately created the Contra Slice System to be easy to learn and repeat, so it’s technically for everyone and anyone who struggles with slicing the golf ball.
That said, if you know anything about Todd Kolb, you know he’s a huge advocate for senior-friendly golf instruction. He factors his “experienced” golfers into everything he creates.

That includes the Contra Slice System, which he designed to be body-friendly and address three specific areas where senior golfers tend to lose distance and direction: setup, face control, and club path.
Who is Todd Kolb?
And what makes him the expert on the senior golfer’s slice?
Todd Kolb is a major champion coach, five-time Golf Digest Best-in-State Instructor, and bestselling author. He’s been coaching the game for over 30 years and has worked with golfers of all ages and skill levels.
He’s also amassed over 300,000 followers on YouTube and has become the face of senior-friendly golf instruction.

This includes his popular Vertical Line Swing System, a comprehensive swing strategy that helps golfers of all ages reclaim accuracy, distance, and control without the need for deep twisting, superhuman swing speed, or other feats only a pro could pull off.
The techniques of the Contra Slice System align with the strategies of the VLS System.
What’s Included in the Contra Slice System?
You learn the system through a series of video lessons divided into five sections.
Section One: Introduction
In this section, Kolb lays out the foundations of the Contra Slice System. He explains the key relationship that determines the outcome of your swing in clear terms.
What we love most about this section is that he gives golfers a specific objective to focus on, including a simple phrase that summarizes the ideal swing in just eight words.

This makes it much easier to absorb the information that follows. Instead of trying to remember a laundry list of checkpoints and angles, you start with a clear purpose and direction. The rest of the lessons stick better because they’re built on a system of logic any golfer can understand, no geometry degree necessary.
Section Two: Setup
As you probably guessed, this is where you perfect your setup. Kolb walks you through all the details you’d expect—body position, face orientation… all that good stuff.
But there are a couple specifics here that are pretty eye-opening.
For one thing, Kolb has you take a careful look at your grip, and you might actually find that your miserable slice habit starts with the way you hold your club.

Then he shares a weight position trick he says has gotten results for every one of his students. We can confirm that it’s a really effective tip. You’ll have to tell us if it works for you, too.
By the time you complete this section, you’ll be ready to go with an easy setup routine you can repeat for every shot.
Section Three: Clubface
Unsurprisingly, the clubface is a huge component of the Contra Slice System. It’s not just that face orientation determines the direction of your ball flight. It’s that most amateur golfers alter their aim mid-swing without even realizing it.
You’ll learn how to put a stop to this with easy checkpoints in four key swing segments: address, takeaway, top of the backswing, and post-impact.

It’s going to help your practice a lot to learn these checkpoints, but don’t worry about having to master yet another method that asks you to control several different aspects of your swing in the one second it takes to complete it.
Kolb closes out this section with two feels and a really fun Tee to Sky Drill. All these things help you learn how maintaining proper face orientation feels in your body so you can skip the analysis.
Section Four: Path
In this section, you learn the ideal clubpath for hitting a nice, high draw, as well as how to maintain that path throughout your swing.

Once again, Kolb aims for simplicity with simple tricks that correct your path without forcing you to analyze every beat of a one-second swing. There’s a clear checkpoint to ensure your arm is traveling along the right path, plus a genius hip movement that keeps you from coming over the top.
The drills in this section give you a clear direction for practicing what you’ve learned. And in our experience, they help you fix your swing fast.
Section Five: Bonus Driver Lesson
Sections 1-4 give you all the information you need to fix your slice. This bonus section helps you take what you’ve learned to the next level.
There’s a combo drill that incorporates all the ideas you’ve learned. We had a great time with this one. And it doesn’t hurt that you can use this one for your pre-shot routine on the course.

You’ll also learn a common swing fault that could be to blame for a lot of your slices, plus a drill to make sure it never happens again.
But the most intriguing lesson in this section is probably the one on hitting a draw with your driver. Kolb acknowledges that this is notoriously difficult for amateur golfers, but he claims that if you follow his advice, you’ll be one of the few who can do it.
(And if you’re wondering, it did work for us.)
What’s the Difference Between VLS and the Contra Slice System?
The VLS System is a full swing system. When you learn the VLS System, you learn how to ditch old techniques that are only causing you trouble and adapt your swing to make the most of your strengths.
The VLS video lessons (and Kolb’s bestselling book The Bad Lie) cover every part of your game—driving, putting, and everything in between. All techniques are senior-friendly.
The Contra Slice System is obviously not as comprehensive. This system zooms in on a few key areas of your swing to help you overcome one specific problem. But it’s still rooted in the same senior-friendly concepts that define VLS.
It’s a great next step for anyone already familiar with the VLS System, but you don’t have to know VLS to succeed with the Contra Slice System.
Is the Contra Slice System Worth It?
If the slice is a problem for you, we think the Contra Slice System is well worth your time. You’d be hard-pressed to find a fix for the slice that is as clear and quick as this one.
There’s also an odd sense of relief that comes with learning the system. It’s so standard to teach the techniques of professional golfers, we amateurs don’t realize how much pressure is put on us to perform at an unrealistic level.
The Contra Slice System doesn’t demand long practice hours, flexibility, or even the physical stability of a young person. You can dive right into the technique without first fighting to build skills you’ll likely never have.

And once you realize that you don’t have to strain to hit high, controlled draws, your confidence will shoot through the roof.
That’s our experience, anyway.
If you’d like to try the Contra Slice System for yourself, you can get it here.
