Now, Under Armour has been known more for their golf apparel than their accessories in years past. So what are Under Armour Tuned Sunglasses? And how can these sunglasses actually help your golf game? More on that shortly. Let’s start with that first question.
What Are Under Armour Tuned Sunglasses?
From the Under Armour website, the “NEW UA Tuned Golf lenses provide contrast enhancement & help you to read the course more precisely.” So what does that mean? Well, if you are like me and most other people, you are used to affordable (cheap) sunglasses that basically just tint the world around you.
If you get a little fancy, you may invest in some polarized lenses as well. Polarized sunglasses are nice and all. But when it comes to golf, they aren’t primarily designed to track golf balls. They are meant to reduce glare, which I suppose is benificial if you are searching for your ball in water hazards most of the day.
In a nutshell, these rose-tinted sunglasses provide enhanced contrast on the course, which most notably helps you read greens better. That might not help your putting stroke itself, but it definitely gives you a better look at the shot.
In fact, I got to check these sunglasses out firsthand at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show, and immediately I knew these would be hot.

The Fit & Feel
Upon first glance, these sunglasses look pretty standard for what you would expect out of Under Armour. Sleek, stylish, sporty. I especially like the look of the Glimpse frames. They are a good blend of fashionable enough for everyday wear, while having a nice snug fit to know I can wear them in an active setting. (In fact, I’ve got the Glimpse in the Recovery lenses, and they are amazing when I’m out shooting video on the golf course.)
The other pair I received was the Octane sunglasses. Immediately, you look at them and think baseball or cycling, and for good reason. The half-frame sunglasses scream active and athletic, and once I put them on I loved how they fit. They wrap perfectly around the contours of my head and face. And the adjustable nose piece is a welcome addition. Personally, I have never been a half-frame shades guy though, so these would probably be a pass for me.
But the most underrated part of these sunglasses might just be their contact points. Most cheaper sunglasses I wear tend to rub on my cheekbones, but these UA shades actually rest on your ears and the brim of your nose. That alone is worth the price of admission.
Team Reviews
Here’s what a few of the members of our USGolfTV staff thought of the Under Armour Tuned Golf Sunglasses:
Jordan Knowlton: I loved the color that these glasses shaded everything in, it really helped make the course pop out while still helping with the glare from the sun. The build quality is excellent as they feel sturdy and like they won’t break if I drop them on the course. Also, I really liked the fit on my head, nothing felt like it was too tight or too loose, they always felt secure when swinging with them on. Some sunglasses make it too dark when I am trying to golf in them but these balance that line perfectly!
Tyler Prins: One of my favorite features about the sunglasses was the fact that the nose piece was adjustable. This helped me most when I was on the golf course hitting shots because the glasses stayed put even when I was sweating. The other feature that I liked was the lenses, which allowed me to see the green undulation much better than normal sunglasses on the greens. Reading putts is always difficult, but I feel like I actually had an advantage!
The Verdict
Under Armour Tuned Sunglasses are a stylish look that provides golfers a little extra contrast on those bright sunny days. While I can’t guarantee they’ll help you line up your putt properly, they’ll give you a better opportunity to do so.
I wear the Glimpse Recovery sunglasses on the course when we are shooting content for our YouTube Channel. Normally I hate wearing sunglasses during a shoot because of the tinted look while watching playback. But wearing the Recovery sunglasses, I don’t have that issue.
Prepare to drop a little coin on these sunglasses (the Octanes retail at $125, the Glimpse $110). But you get what you pay for, as they are durable, lightweight and look great. If you are sick of buying cheap shades that smudge and scratch and break, and you’re ready to invest a little money in something that lasts, these might be just what you’re looking for, golfer or not.
